KNOW RACISM Fourth Round of Grants for Anti-Racism Initiatives

Printer Friendly Version

The 'Know Racism' Steering Group, in partnership with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform have announced a fourth round of grants as part of its actions to support community groups and organisations working against racism in Ireland.

Grants are available in this round for the development of actions, initiatives or projects which have the objective of:

  • Stimulating public awareness and understanding of racism
  • Affirming cultural diversity as a value in our society
  • Helping to create the conditions that make it more difficult for racism to exist
  • Promoting an inclusive approach to minority groups

There are three levels of grants available:

1. Scheme A - Small Scale Actions

Grants of amounts of up to Euro 2,000 are available for small scale actions, which bring people together and are focused on anti-racism and the promotion of interculturalism. These will normally be once-off events.

2. Scheme B - Strategic Initiatives

Grants of amounts of up to Euro 6,000 are available to facilitate networks in developing local anti-racism strategic plans. These networks can be geographic or interest based and may involve a mix of organisations which can operate to support each other. An important objective of this approach is to support the aims of the Know Racism programme into the future and have a long-term impact.

3. Scheme C - Demonstration Projects

Grants of amounts of up to Euro 20,000 are available for demonstration projects which focus on new structures or processes for the delivery of public services to address anti-racism and/or to promote interculturalism. Typically these projects would be designed and developed by statutory organisations in partnership with minority communities and local community groups. Ideally these projects would be developed in towns or cities with a sufficient population of minority groups to be sustainable in the longer term.
