Aim: The Naughton Gallery at Queen’s Community Alphabets outreach project brought four Belfast community groups together with four professional illustrators to create their own alphabet. Each letter illustrates something that is unique, peculiar or important to the groups, identifying local stories, revealing touchstones and talismans in the landscape, exploring shared emotions and illuminating hidden histories.

Each group debated and discussed their individual and shared experiences with the artist and came to a consensus on the objects and experiences that best defined their sense of community to themselves and others.

The finished alphabets have been reproduced in poster form and will be distributed by the groups themselves and to all schools in Northern Ireland, giving viewers an insight into what it means to be part of a specific community in Belfast today. It is hoped this celebration of diversity and common experience will inspire others to produce a community alphabet of their own.

Aims: To coincide with Intercultural and Anti Racism Week we will also be showcasing two of our workshops, and these will be attended by pupils from a local primary school:

Believe It or Not (Discrimination/Racism) & Fortress Europe (Immigration Issues)

Drop in sessions will run from 9:30am – 10:30am & 11am – 12 noon

The workshops cover a range of social issues including Bullying, Peer Pressure, Self Esteem, Anger Management, Racism, Discrimination, Immigration Issues and Teenage Relationships. Our professional drama facilitators will be on hand throughout the morning to discuss each workshop & demonstrate key elements of their delivery.

Theatre Squad is a service: schools, community groups & businesses can book at any time to have an interactive workshop delivered by a professional drama practitioner on a range of themes. The scheme is in its third year & has been booked by schools and other organizations throughout Northern Ireland. All workshops run with the high quality and professional approach audiences have come to expect of Replay Productions.
