About Whole Organization Approach Training

Introduction The NCCRI provides 'whole organisation approach' training to addressing racism and promoting interculturalism to government bodies and statutory agencies as a priority. The training is a two-day training session and is targeted at key people who have responsibility for policy development and decision-making within their organisations. It is encouraged that organisations engage in anti-racism and intercultural awareness training before undertaking whole organisation approach training. Approach The training sessions are designed to build participants' awareness while helping them to acquire the necessary tools and understanding to implement appropriate strategies to combat racism and promote interculturalism in the workplace. This is achieved through participation, drawing on the knowledge of the group, experiential learning and the provision of accurate & accessible information. Aim of the training session The primary aims of the NCCRI whole organisation approach training are: To develop appropriate strategies for working in an increasingly multi-ethnic society To create awareness of the challenges and opportunities for addressing racism and promoting interculturalism within organisations To encourage organisations to adopt policies, good practice and action plans to combat racism and promote interculturalism To provide participants with accurate knowledge and tools to develop strategies to challenge racism and promote interculturalism in the workplace Content Part One: Identifying the challenges and opportunities of promoting anti-racism Introduction Racism and Institutional racism Power in the workplace Why challenge racism? The challenge of promoting anti-racism and equality Part Two: Strategies for addressing racism and promoting interculturalism The whole organisation approach to challenging racism Assessing your own organisation How do develop an anti-racist policy for your organisation Case Study/Video analysis Identify your organisation's role in challenging racism Planning a strategy for challenging racism within your organisation The Trainer The Trainer is Kensika Monshengwo, Training and Resource Officer with the NCCRI. Kensika has extensive experience in anti-racism awareness raising in Ireland including undertaking training with the staff and board of the Equality Authority, regional health boards, government departments and non- government organisations. Kensika Monshengwo was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and has lived in Belgium, the USA, Canada, Switzerland and France and holds a postgraduate degree from the Sorbonne in France. Cost 360 euro for the two-day training course.
